Location

The house is situated 3km from the small market town of Montespertoli which has many different festivals and a local market on Tuesdays. The local Tuscan cuisine is superb and there are many good restaurants in the vicinity. A modern sports complex with a swimming pool, as well as hotel and restaurant, are situated five minutes beyond Montespertoli.

The town is situated in the Chianti “putto” wine producing area and some excellent local varieties can be sampled and bought at the Castello di Sonnino in Montespertoli and the Castello di Poppiano a short drive away. Both of these producers sell their own olive oil.

The Area

The town of Empoli, excellent for shopping, is 15km away and has frequent rail connections to Florence, Pisa, and Siena.  Florence, 29km away, can be reached in 30 minutes via the Superstrada or 50 minutes via the beautiful Via Volterrana and passing such sights as the Castello di Montegufoni (home of the Sitwells) and the magnificent Medici Villa ‘I Collazzi’.  Other interesting towns situated nearby are Certaldo (birthplace of Boccaccio), Castelfiorentino (Benozzo Gozzoli frescoes), and San Gimignano, the medieval town of many towers.
